Assemblyman Eric A. Stevenson and Transit Workers Union Local 100 Bus Drivers will present a legislative bill to put a stop on the assault of MTA Bus Drivers.
Assemblyman Eric A. Stevenson (D-Bronx) of the 79th A.D. and Transit Workers Union Local 100 President John Samuelson and its members will be holding a press conference at the Kingsbridge Bus Depot located on the corner of 218th Street and 9th Avenue (the back entrance) at 11:30am to announce a bill that Assemblyman Stevenson introduced to protect MTA Bus Drivers in New York City as they service our community. The bill number is A9852.
The Bill will require that all New York City buses be equipped with partitions. Currently there are only 8% of buses equipped with partitions (7,000 buses are currently in service and only 586 buses are installed with partitions) This year alone, there has been a total of 107 assaults on bus drivers in New York City. A few of them have happened in Assemblyman Stevenson’s district.
In attendance will be several bus operators who have been assaulted including bus operator Marlene Bien-Aime who was hospitalized with a black eye, facial cuts and chest injuries for not allowing an uncaged dog on her bus.
